The grant scheme aimed was initiated to support sustainable tourism activities that respects the goals of nature conservation. The scheme was open for activities that consisted of improving and broadening the range of tourism services offered in the region, establishing tourism education programs and supporting activities of local groups and associations dealing with tourism problems and development in the area.
After the elaboration of detailed rules and criteria for the scheme, two consecutive calls were realised. In total, 12 applications were accepted and granted with an average amount of 43.000 Czech crowns.
The applicants were primarily touristic businesses and municipalities. In general, small scale activities were promoted. Special attention was paid to support activities that aimed at enhancing locals' and tourists' awareness of the importance of conserving local knowledge and traditions and a high quality environment as an integral part of the cultural heritage.
The grant scheme supported the main idea of biosphere reserves - the peaceful coexistence of biodiversity protection and sustainable forms of local economic activities.
