The activity aimed at building the capacity of local people to become nature guides in the place where they live, the Babia Góra Biosphere Reserve. As existing training courses were expensive and did not address local people, nor did trainings focus on the special characteristics of the Babia Góra region, no local tourist guides had been active in the region.
Therefore a comprehensive training programme had been launched in the framework of the activity. A total number of 51 trainees participated in the training programme which consisted of 154 hours of lectures and 15 trips (one or two-days long) and two internal exams.
At the end of the programme, the trainees had the possibility to participate in the official state exam for mountain guides and to acquire a national liscense.
The training programme created employment opportunities and enhanced local peoples' knowledge and awareness on environmental issues and sustainable forms of tourism.
